Thank you so much for this article! I am a witch and an artist trying to fund my path, and I have taken to social media as a matter of expectation for finding people who will pay me for my work. It’s felt treacherous, and the algorithm rarely graces me with creatives who are critical of these vast commercial technologies—how they lend themselves to inauthenticity and exploitation
Treacherous is a good word for the vibe on big social media! Thank you for reading. I think those of us who have successfully used crowdfunding in the past are now finding it near impossible. The economic climate is different and the area is flooded. The algorithm has really made it impossible for artists, writers and musicians to share their work freely with those on social media who want to see it.
This is wonderful. I have only come to fully acknowledge my Wytch self, at 67. Writing my book about a 1600s hedge witch enabled me to see my true self. Looking back as early as my childhood, I now see the Truth of it.
Hi Nancy, it's interested to look back with decades of wisdom and see the clarity of the paths we walked with such certainty, even in childhood--though perhaps we couldn't see it then.
