Vintage postcard of a colourful illustration of a moonlit lake and sandy shore hedged with woodland. Two people are in the scene, looking our to the moonlight on the lake. A small bonfire is burnging, sending up a small plume of smoke
vintage postcard of Death’s Door, Door County Wisconsin, where I spent childhood summers

I travel through Evie on the northeast coast of mainland Orkney, a place I haunt like a spirit with unfinished business. I go by a little white cottage perched on a slope with a stunted hedge and stone wall surrounding it. I glimpse the chimney pots, and my heart aches. Here is the one that got away, this house overlooking the island of Eynhallow between the mainland and Rousay.

A photo of a placid sea with a dark green island in the distance. The sky is blue, but dark clouds are shifting over the landscape, darkening it in parts. A rainbow arches over the scene
